Advancing Open Governance: YSAD Collaborates on Abia State Action Plan Review and Drafting

YSAD, as a proud member of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) in Abia State, recently participated in a pivotal three-day review of the Abia State Action Plan (SAP1) and the drafting of SAP2. This collaborative event took place in Umuahia from July 31 to August 2, 2024, gathering a diverse group of partners dedicated to fostering transparent governance.

The State Action Plan is a crucial document that encapsulates a range of co-created commitments from both OGP state and non-state actors, all aligned with the strategic vision of the state government. Abia SAP2 is set to run from 2024 to 2026, aiming to enhance governance practices within the state.

Throughout the event, participants gained in-depth knowledge of OGP principles, equipping them with the skills necessary to effectively implement SAP2 once it is finalized. OGP focuses on open governance, accountability, transparency, and active citizen participation—principles that Abia State committed to in July 2018.

As an organization dedicated to promoting active citizenship, YSAD is thrilled to have played a role in both the review of SAP1 and the drafting of SAP2 for Abia State. We extend our gratitude to the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development for facilitating this vital process and to the MacArthur Foundation for providing funding for the event.

A special thank you also goes to our partners, including Voice Oxfam in Nigeria, Palladium: Make It Possible, and the Nigeria Strengthening Civic Advocacy and Local Engagement (SCALE) project funded by USAID/Nigeria. Together, we are working to strengthen governance and empower citizens in Abia State!
