A New Era of Opportunity: YSAD Joins Forces for the Fashion Future Program in Aba

Something transformative is on the horizon for Aba, and YSAD is thrilled to be among the project partners! On August 23, 2024, YSAD participated in a pre-launch stakeholder engagement workshop in preparation for the upcoming launch of the Fashion Future Program, set for September 2024.

This innovative initiative, implemented by Ethnocentrique Ltd in collaboration with various civil society organizations and private sector partners, is generously funded by the Mastercard Foundation. The Fashion Future Program aims to equip young people aged 18 to 25 in Aba, Abia, with essential livelihood and entrepreneurship skills in three key areas: garment making, shoe making, and leather work.

What sets this project apart is its unique adoption of the Igbo apprenticeship model, a time-honored community approach that has historically empowered the Igbo people in Nigeria to train their youth, effectively combating unemployment and poverty. Beneficiaries of this program will receive starter packs to help them establish and run their businesses once their training concludes.

With youth unemployment being one of Nigeria’s most pressing challenges, the Fashion Future Program arrives at a critical moment. By providing practical skills and entrepreneurial support, this initiative not only addresses the urgent need for job creation but also fosters a spirit of innovation and self-sufficiency among the next generation.

YSAD is proud to contribute to this vital project, which promises to pave the way for a brighter future for the youth of Aba. Together, we are building pathways to sustainable livelihoods and empowering young people to thrive in a rapidly changing economy.
